When I finished university in the Summer of 2002, I spent a few unemployed months watching the Food Network and becoming obsessed with Anna Olson and the Sugar show. To this point in my life, I had never baked a cake from scratch and thought that all pancakes started by opening a box (sorry Mom!). I remember a lot of failed baking projects from those days, some smoke-filled ovens, and a certain Mango Cheesecake disaster that I still don’t like thinking about. Most of the recipes I tried were things I saw on Food Network or ripped out of magazines.

When I was in Calgary in 2008 (shout-outs West Coast BFFs!), my friend Danielle showed me a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bars on Bake or Break. I had no idea that the world of food blogging even existed. Now I have a regular rotation of blogs that I check on a daily basis for ideas and inspiration. I thought it was about time that I started chronicling my own baking projects and adventures in the kitchen.

So here I go…

P.S. I suppose I should disclose here that I have a crappy old Canon PowerShot. I do my best with it, but obviously my pictures won’t be that great until someone explains Digital SLR to me.

Update: As of November 2011, I’m now using a Canon Rebel T3. I’m still mostly in Auto mode, with a 2012 goal of learning how to use all the different settings!
